Questions & AnswersSEARAIL answers your questions about vehicle shipping, auto transport, car moving.What types of vehicle can SEARAIL move?SEARAIL can ship cars, trucks, vans, SUV's and many other types of vehicle. Please contact us if your vehicle is not listed. Will my car be safe while being moved?SEARAIL makes no compromises in protecting your car while in transit. Professional loading crews and enclosed rail cars with sophisticated tie-down systems work together to keep your vehicle safe from vandalism, the elements and accidental damage. For truck moves, we have modern trailers which safeguard against damage. SEARAIL's locations are on secured CN compounds to protect against any vandalism. What about transit protection?Contact our Quality Control Department for more information. How long will it take for my car to be moved to its destination?Your specific move will determine the time it takes to get to destination. For example: Vancouver to Halifax would take 12-14 days whereas Winnipeg to Toronto takes 5-7 days, from our rail date. The winter months sometime require additional time to compensate for cold weather issues and railcar re-routing by CN. Can I find out where my vehicle is during transit?SEARAIL has a fully computerized tracking system which traces your vehicle across the country. Contact any SEARAIL office to get an update on your vehicle's progress. What do I have to do to prepare my vehicle for shipment?For a complete list of details, see the shipping checklist. Will my vehicle travel by train or truck?SEARAIL uses rail service for any move to/from Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax. If your move is not to/from these major cities, we would use a flatbed tow truck to transport to the closest rail location. When it is not economical to move to a rail location, we use trucks. How do I move my car from / to the United States?SEARAIL has trained US specialists to make these moves easy. We will aid you in completion of all the respective documentation to ensure your vehicle crosses the border without any complications. Is SEARAIL a bonded carrier?Yes! We are a bonded U.S. and Canadian carrier. Do you have a fuel surcharge?With the volatility of the price of oil, Searail, like all transportation companies, has had to add a fuel surcharge to their base rates.
